Over the 10+ years of being professional photographers we've had a handful of potential clients tell us they were opting to have a friend photograph their wedding instead. In those cases, we'd hope the friend has experience photographing weddings, is attentive to detail, has at least semi-professional equipment, along with the know-how to use it.
Every couple deserves to have their wedding documented with beautiful photographs. Your wedding should be one of the best days of your life, and as we learned at our own wedding it can also be the most fleeting. As wedding photographers our primary task is essentially preserving memories for our clients.
Below is a link to a fantastic article written by a professional photographer that has been circulating the internet for a few years. Before the author was a photographer and understood what it takes to make great photos, she decided to have a friend with no wedding photography experience shoot her wedding. It's a great cautionary tale and addresses the obstacles that you may encounter if you choose not to hire a professional.
We encourage anyone who is considering using a friend as their wedding photographer to take a moment to read through the article. We think you'll find some invaluable advice...
